Who you are determines how you will lead.”

‹‹‹ The Hogan Approach to Leadership Development
The Hogan Approach to Leadership Development

What we know is that perhaps two-thirds of the people currently in leadership positions will fail.

The most common reason for their failure will be their inability to build or maintain a team.

Their inability to build a team is typically a function of certain dysfunctional interpersonal tendencies that can be identified through the HoganLead process.

HoganLead is a world-renowned, premiere leadership development program that is ideal for developing leaders through proven psychometric research that distinguishes successful leaders from failed leaders. By using HoganLead, leaders fully understand their performance capabilities, challenges and drivers – the key to getting ahead.

  • Based on 30+ years of research that identify competencies, derailers, and values of top leaders
  • The benchmark for understanding the performance capabilities of individuals
  • Assessment package that links competencies with leaders’ personalities
  • Designed to evaluate a leader’s impact on the climate and culture of an organization
  • The key to forecasting a person’s ability to get along and to get ahead

HoganLead evaluates leadership potential from four perspectives

Competencies
The Potential Report is derived from the Hogan Personality Inventory (the Bright Side of Personality). This report describes the impression a person makes on others during day-to-day interaction. The report then translates these impressions into an organization’s competency model. Finally, the report generates developmental recommendations based on an organization’s desired competencies.

Derailers
The Challenge Report, derived from the Hogan Development Survey (the Dark Side of Personality), describes a person’s characteristic way of interpreting the world and treating subordinates while under stress and pressure. The report concerns behavioral tendencies that derail careers and interfere with the ability to build a cohesive and high-performing team—the hallmark of effective leadership.

Values
The Values Report is derived from the Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (the Inside of Personality). This report concerns core values—the goals that drive a person’s behavior, his/her aspirations and expectations about life. What a person values determines how he/she will lead. This, in turn, determines the kind of environment a person will create for his/her subordinates and the sort of organizational culture in which the person will do his/her best work.

Development
The Coaching Report is a supplemental development tool. This report provides a self-guided, comprehensive planning process for individual career development. It incorporates the results from the other three HoganLead Series reports. When combined with 360° assessment or multi-rater data, the Coaching Report outlines an action plan designed to foster a person’s professional growth.

‹‹‹ Self-awareness value in leadership development

“When seventy-five members of the Stanford Graduate school of Business Advisory Council were asked to recommend the most important capability for leaders to develop, their answer was nearly unanimous: Self-Awareness.”
